Cheerios had an offer a couple of weeks ago. Send in two box tops and get a free trip to the movies. (Actually it was give two secret codes from inside of "Specially marked" boxes to the web site and print out a coupon, but you get the idea.) It seemed appropriate to use the coupon from a circular cereal to see "The Life of Pi". I know that sounds fishy, but it is nothing to get pissed off about.

Anyway, I enjoyed the flick. It is very visual, almost Fantasia 2000 like in spots. As a non-fiction partner to the movie, I recommend reading Thor Heyerdahl's "Kon-Tiki" if you haven't already. I'm hard pressed to say read "Kon-Tiki" before of after seeing the movie because it is arguably spoilery even though the stories are unrelated. "Kon-Tiki" might change the way you see the magic of "The Life of Pi" movie.

I have heard good things about the Life of Pi. I may try to go see it one of these days.

I'm torn whether or not I'm going to see the movie.... I did read the book "Life of Pi" (though not "Kon-Tiki") and after seeing the commercial for the movie I can't decide. Thanks for saying what you think of it - it's good to know that it's is good as a movie either way.
